“Insomnia” by Sarah Pinborough is a psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The story centers around a group of characters whose lives become intertwined in unexpected ways as each of them struggles with their own personal issues.
The writing is engaging and drew me into the twisted and unsettling world that the characters live in. The plot is complex and layered with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing and wondering just how it would wrap up. The characters are multifaceted, though I have to say that I didn’t really like any of them, which definitely made for an interesting read.
One of the standout aspects of the story is the way in which it explores the nature of sleep and how disruptive it can be if you do not get enough. The story digs into the science of sleep and the concepts of dreams and nightmares, adding an extra layer of depth and complexity to the story.
The fast pace builds tension and suspense as the story unfolds, with an ending that unexpected, tying together all of the various plot threads in a satisfying and surprising way…though I do wish there had been a bit more of an explanation into the BIG twist.
Overall, I would definitely recommend “Insomnia” to anyone who likes a good thriller. The writing is compelling, the story is both thrilling, and the characters might be redeemable.
